California Supreme Court Contingency Fee Proceedings

For those who may be following the California Supreme Court proceedings on the propriety of government entities retaining private outside counsel on a contingent fee basis to pursue public nuisance actions, you can check on the progress of the case at the court's online docket.

The justices who will be deciding the case are: Chief Justice Ronald George along with Associate Justices Joyce Kennard; Kathryn Werdegar; Ming Chin; and Carlos Moreno. Interestingly, justices Marvin Baxter and Carol Corrigan have recused themselves, which means that the court will appoint two pro tem justices from the ranks of the intermediate California appellate courts to sit in their stead. The pro tems are assigned on a rotating basis from an alphabetical roster of sitting justices.
